My Take on The Pill

It appears to me that when it comes to sex, women and men are concerned about different things. Women want to feel loved, cared for, and respected. Men want to feel pleasure, feel desire and excitement. Both men and women can have sex with people they don't really care for - but in terms of relationships, I think men and women definitely want different things - the difficult task is to find a middle in which to agree upon.

When it comes to safe sex, women are usually taking the responsibility and I am beginning to question if that is really fair. Men feel safer when their partners provide the condoms or are on birth control. Most women I know are on the Pill, which is incentive to have unprotected sex with their partners. I went to a physician once and she says to me, "You can say that you are monogomous, but how certain are you that your partner is practicing monogamy? And how ceratin are you that their previous partners have been monogomous?" And those words..."how certain" just kind of stuck in my mind and continues to stay on my mind. Of course, when you are in a relationship, there has to be a certain amount of trust - but the only thing you can really do is trust what your partner is saying and do your best to protect yourself.

Having the rights to take contraceptives has its benefits and its disadvantages. Women can take control of their bodies and prevent themselves from getting pregnant...however, if they do get pregnant, can the blame then, in turn, be put against them? If a woman forgets to take her pill, can her partner then say "I can't take those pills for you - you forgot and now we're going to have a baby." How can she argue that? I think that is the major downside of the contraceptive pill...having the woman take most, if not all, of the responsibility when a man and woman have sex.

I believe that we live in a time now where there are all sorts of precautions that we can take. A lot of women fought hard to give us these rights to birth-control pills...so there isn't really an excuse for getting pregnant - there are no "mistakes," really...If you're going to have sex, you need to realize that is a risk in itself. That's why...when you do choose to have sex with your partner, make sure you talk about it...it is important to know who you are sleeping with...you want someone who will BE THERE FOR YOU if something unplanned should happen - not someone who is not man enough to take responsibility.

That's just my take on it...

  • I would just like to say i agree with you and it is important to protect yourself but most of all be there for your partner.... i believe it is the responsibility of both people and whatever happens you have to be there for eachother it's out of love and respect... yes men like excitement desire and all that but sex has this hold on men and it's wrong, it can make you an awful person, i wish we didn't have two minds but unfortunately we do,and i'd like to say a good woman makes a good man, or so i would hope. The sad part is the older generation tells us young guys to go out and just (excuse my language) "fuck", but i believe this mentality comes from a string of men with broken hearts and their pride gets in the way to avoid more damage to their ego.... again unfortunately having sex with other girls you don't love is unfufilling--- only physically....but where is the depth the sense of purpose??? meanwhile you suffer mentally and emotionally.......finding the right partner is hard but ideally physical emotional and mental intimacy is what makes it and if you don't have all three, you have a emptiness i can't begin to explain... i have learned the biggest lesson of my life. sorry about the rant i found your entry intriguing and i'm in a different state of mind nowadays but i'm a man.... we are full of indecision.
